Parachute Activity for Numbers

Today I tried something new, and it worked out pretty well. We all sat in a circle around a play parachute (you could use a sheet or blanket if you don't have a parachute.) I had a pile of scarves set to the side. I showed a child a number flashcard. If they identified the number correctly, they got to count out that many scarves into the center of the parachute. Then, we shook the parachute while counting, to see how long it would take to shake all the scarves out. It was a hit with the kids!
The other game I made was a ton of work, but it's a lot of fun. For each child make a pizza crust, sauce, and cheese (basically a brown paper circle, a little smaller red paper circle, and some shredded white paper). Cut out small red circles (pepperoni), green paper slices (green peppers), and gray paper mushroom shapes. Then as a group I'll say, "Put 3 pepperonis, 4 mushrooms, and 6 green peppers on your pizza." Then I put that many up on the board (it's magnetic) and we count them all together. Then we say, "Order up!", clear our pizzas and work on the next 'order'. Like I said, a LOT of prep work for you, but so much you can do with it throughout the school year.
