Trifolds for Novels

I recently purchased a Scholastic Resource Book "Reading Response Trifolds for 40 Favorite Novels". I LOVE it! I use the Novels and trifolds in my small reading groups. The trifolds make lesson planning a breeze - just do a section each time I meet with a group (2 or 3 times a week). However, I have so many more book sets that aren't in this resource book. I was wondering if anyone has created Trifolds to go with other Novels? I am going to start working on creating my own, but reading through all those Novels will take some time. I was hoping someone had already create some for Novels that I might already have and would be willing to share.

in this book. I saw it online and thought about getting it. I looked in the teacher supply store, but they didn't carry it. Can you give some of the novel titles that goes along with it? I really want to know if its worth buying.

Novel Titles

I didn't bring home the Trifold Resource Book with my stuff tonight - so I will have to go with what I remember of the top of my head...There are 40 Novels with Trifolds for each Novel.
Bud, Not Buddy....Bridge to Terabithia...Shiloh....Dear Mr. Henshaw....Fantastic Mr. Fox....Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe...Holes....I wish I could remember more of the Titles.
I really think the Resource is worth every penny I spent on the book. However, now I am hunting for Book Sets to use in my small reading groups. I have been using a lot of my Scholastic Book Order Points to purchase 6 book sets. I thought that I would just work at it and eventually I'd have all the book sets to go with the 40 Novels.
I am not sure what type of Leveling system you use. My school uses Fountas & Pinell Levels. The book titles are not Leveld in the Trifold Book. However, I used the "Book Wizard" on the Scholastic Website - You can type in book titles and it will tell you the level (you choice which leveling system to use). I was able to find all the 40 titles Fountas & Pinell Levels.

Just those few titles alone has helped me decide that I want to get that book. Even though we have a few leveled books and small closet for a book room, we don't have to use the leveled books. Our principal chose for us to have differentiated classes. in other words, the students switch reading classes based on their reading level. So we have a low class (10 kids max), average class, and high. the children may switch to a higher class depending on their dibel score and/or teacher input. this is my first time using novels in the classroom (because I was moved from 2nd to 4th), so I perfer to have everyone in the same novel and I'll pull a small group if its needed (at least for this year).

Novel Trifolds

I wish my school did reading by switching classrooms. Instead we level and teach multiple groups within our own classroom. So, I currently have 4 reading groups going at once (Last grading period I had 6 - because the kids were so spread out in their levels).

Now, after you get the book and check out those Trifolds....I have an ideas to share with you. I have many other great Novel sets that I have purchased to use in Reading Groups, but they don't have Trifolds in that Resource Book. Would you like to share the work of creating Trifolds for other Novels? We could each take a Novel and create a Trifold and then share it via Proteacher or email (which ever you'd prefer). We could decide which Novels we both have that aren't in the Trifold Resurce Book that way we are making ones we could both use.

Think about it and reply - anyone else who'd like to share in this project just reply and we'll get started helping each other out.

OK - I am going to get this idea started. I am creating a Trifold for the Novel "Strider" by Beverly Cleary. I should finish it sometime today and will post it here on PT. I just have to figure out how to attach a PDF file to my post.

I finished a trifold for the Novel "Strider" by Beverly Cleary. I will try to attach it to this post. I also tried to convert it to a PDF (no luck). So it is a WORD document.
I plan to use the Trifold with my small reading groups. Each group is reading a different Novel (at their reading level). I usually meet every other day with my groups. That way we discuss their reading and answers. Then I give them the rest of that day plus the next day to complete the reading and trifold assignment. (I don't send these home - this is in-class reading).

I teach 6/7 and never go on this grade 4 board, but I was searching trifolds and found this thread. I 'borrowed' your Strider template and used it for an idea I had to use trifolds for peer response sharing. I hate to confess this, but I need to learn how to create things like this in Word, so I REALLY REALLY appreciate the work you did Hope you don't mind! I'm thankful for you and all other PT contributors

Hey I am on a roll here...I am attaching another Trifold I created for "The Secret School" by Avi. I now have 4 Trifolds (2 I made and 2 from the Resource Book mentioned above) to go with the Novels I picked for my 4 reading groups - so I am set for the next 2/3 weeks. I am going to start working on a Trifold for "No Talking!" by Andrew Clements next.
