How would you use this organizer?

Risa posted a thread about a great site she found with many useful resources. While checking it out and saving some of the copies I thought I'd use most, I found this one on author's purpose. It's a very interesting organizer, I think the kids will like it, but I'm not sure how to use it correctly.

Can anyone please explain how you might use it concerning the author's purpose?

To me, it looks like clues for the author's purpose are along the sides (the signs) just like on a road the signs help you get somewhere, the circle is where you write the actual author's purpose. Maybe? So, if it is to inform: you would write clue words from the passage that prove it is to inform...

I agree with curlygirl. I think the organizer alludes to the path to identifying author's purpose. The roadsigns are the clues.

It is cool. I think it would definitelly spark the curiosity of my middle schoolers!

This is a great organizer for purpose. On a lower level, Purpose could be deleted and the signs labeled with the parts of the plot: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution in the circle. An explanation of each part is written on the pathway. Thanks! I saw Risa's post and bookmarked it to explore later, so appreciate your jumpstart and sharing this.

That would be a good way to use this organizer with my more advanced kids. Thanks for the idea.
