My district is thinking about adopting this reading series. Any thoughts from those who have used it to teach?

Its a good reading series but its very scriptive. Not a lot of room for doing your own activities.

I personally do not care for the series nor does any 3-5 teacher I teach with. It is a good program for what I understand for K-2. However, like the poster before it is very scriptive and it has SO many pieces that need to be taught with it that you could spend the entire day teaching only Open Court and not get everything done. The units are interesting but several of the stories in grade 4 are way over grade level and difficult for the students to relate to.

I know others love the program...I however feel otherwise.

We have several students below grade level in a high poverty area. We've heard it works well in this type of area, but I would love to hear more.

That sounds very much like the demographics of my school. The stories are very difficult for these students. Based on my state test scores last week, the high kids grew alot as well as the middle kids, but the low kids showed very little growth in reading.
