So, I went to a new dentist in town and he gave me a flyer about "Treats to Treasure." I thought it would be great to include in our weekly newsletter to parents at our school because, if kids bring in their Halloween candy, they get paid by the pound, and also get a few treasures and toothbrush. Then, the dentist sends the candy to the troops. My director refused to put it in the newsletter because some of our parents might be sensitive about the war. Are you kidding me?! If it bothered him so much, that part wouldn't have had to be mentioned. Am I being overly sensitive as a military spouse?!

I opposed the war but I don't oppose the troops... why shouldn't they get candy on Halloween? There's no reason to withhold care packages from them because of one's political views about their mission.

I think that would be a great event to tell parents about. Let them make the choice about whether or not they want to participate. Even if someone is against the war, they should not be against our military men and women who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Please thank your spouse for me and thank you too for the sacrifices you make so that your spouse can protect all Americans.

And, the student council has already sponsored a food drive for the troops, etc. We were sent an email about how to address students during Ramadan. Just because we may not agree with what is happening, doesn't mean it's a reason to not support fellow human beings. Most of the troops would come home in a heart beat if they could...

your director's refusal is political correctness run amok!

I also am very thankful for the men and women in the military. Please extend my "thank you" to your spouse for me, too.

I LOVED THIS IDEA. A local dentist does the same...each pound of candy turned in earns the student a dollar, and the then gets the candy sent to the troops. I loooove this idea.
