I was wondering if I could get some sample schedules for half day programs? This is my first year in K and I'm just not getting into a groove with a schedule. I feel like the day is really dull and that we have no time for "fun" things. I'd like to liven it up alittle! I'm wondering when you all do the fun things like using chants or something for a word wall, playing math games, etc?

8:15 - Welcome (songs, attendance, settling in etc.)
8:25 - Literacy Centers
9:10 - Literacy Whole group (shared reading, word wall, etc.)
10:00 - Recess
10:15 - Drinks, Songs
10:25 - Math (calendar, days in school, patterns, etc.)
11:00 - Specials (themes, games, library, etc.)
11:30 - Dismissal

This is the schedule for my morning class. I do the same thing in the afternoon but of course the times change. My school has really mandated my schedule. I don't actually like doing literacy centers first thing, but oh well.

I try to fit "fun" things in when I can. Usually this means during transitions (coming in from recess, getting in lines to go places, etc.). I also break up the long time blocks with little activities. For example, with the math block after they are doing an activity for a bit I may have them stand up and we sing "The Cool Bear Hunt" by Dr. Jean. Or maybe I will say "pattern," which means find some classmates and see how quickly we can make a pattern with our bodies. After we make a pattern I will praise them and we will go back to what we were doing.

1/2 day kindergarten is HARD! I am still not in the groove of it, and I am starting to dislike my schedule but here it is.... My specials times change everyday! So I will just show you what a Tuesday looks like.

8:40-8:55: Arrival/ Seatwork
8:55-9:15: Morning Meeting/Calendar
9:15-9:35: Writer's Workshop
9:35-10:00: Music
10:00-10:30: Reader's Workshop: Shared Reading and IR
10:30-10:45: Recess/Snack
10:45-11:30: Literacy Centers/Guided Reading
11:30-11:45: Math/Science/Social Studies
11:45: Pack up
11:55: Dismissal

Jeannie20: I was looking at your timetable and I really like it because it is the one that is closest to my timetable. I was wondering about the Arrival/seatwork. What does that look like at the kindergarten level?
ALSO: what does IR stand for in the Readers work shop?
