Appropriate Fantasy Titles
Old 10-31-2009, 08:38 AM

I was thinking of having fantasy as my student's next independent reading genre. Any suggestions for appropriate titles for low readers (2nd/3rd grade level), average readers (high 3rd/4th), and high readers (high 4th/low 5th)?

Thanks!

are by Bruce Coville. They are titled The Monster's Ring and Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. These come from his Magic Shop series, so there are more to choose from, but I am not familiar with them.

The Olympians Trilogy is a bit on the edge, but I have very few parents that object. If they do, I just tell them that they can have their child read an equal book of their choice and complete the same types of assignments that I have for the rest of the students.

I'll second Roald Dahl, and add that The BFG is a great read aloud book.

Thank you for all of the book titles...I have added them to my reference list!

My students are all really into their books this month!!! I gave each student a chart that had the book broken down by number of pages to read each week...and most kids MET thier goals for the past two weeks! Three students even finished thier book and have started reading a second, where last month they barely finished their books!

Makes my heart warm and fuzzy!
