Time for Kids Magazine

I'm frustrated with Time for Kids because I was using their resources (quizzes and worksheets) and the kids went on line and got the answers to the test and worksheets. I called the company to complain and they said someone would get back with me. I used it last year and there was no answers on-line.....the answers are included in the teacher's supplement. Just venting!

That's why I stopped using Fact Monster sheets. You can have them write a bit more than the multiple choice answer for information and connections such as text to self, text to text, and text to world and something that they learned from the reading or explain the cause and effect of the topic.

I would force them to write the page and paragraph number where they found the answer. ( insert evil laugh here). Then they would have to create 5 juicy questions for the main article.

You could have them complete a 3-2-1 graphic organizer after they read the aritcle.

They would write down 3 things that they learned from the reading.
Then write down 2 things that they found interesting from the reading.
Finally write down 1 question that they have even after reading the text.

The 1 question helps you in many ways. It can help you for future planning and it could be a mini research opportunity for the students to find the answers to their question and report back to the class.

I was allowing them to take notes during the week and use them on the test....imagine my surprise when I noticed that one had just printed out the test answer sheet as his notes.....middle schoolers...you gotta love them. So, the last time, they did have to write the page number and highlight in their magazine the correct answer.
