I am teaching my kids plural nouns this week. We are first focusing on simply adding "s" then changing y to ies... Any suggestions!

Awesome site! Thanks for sharing it.

My students are having a hard time with plural nouns when they have to pick them out in a sentence. The tests we have to give are tricky and I hate them. I don't like to trick my kids but instead give them a fair chance.
I've used some Teacher's Helper pages to suppliment our curriculum because they are more fun and a little easier.

I wrote the different rules for changing words to plural. Then, on a 1/2 sheet of paper I wrote the singular on the left and plural on the right. Students each got to illustrate one of the verbs. I keep them hanging up in my room so that they can refer to them when they need a remind of which rule to follow.

I have links to several plural noun games on my class blog:

My kids use this site during centers and at home for extra practice. Hope this helps!

Plural Pumpkin Patch
Old 11-01-2009, 07:23 AM

We made a plural pumpkin patch - similar to the one on the website but I adapted it. Each day we talked about a different plural rule and the kids copied the rule on a pumpkin (from a cute notepad at Schoolbox). We discussed examples of the rules. They used a large piece of construction paper divided into fourths and pasted the pumpkin in each section. On Friday I gave them a sheet with 16 small pumpkins. Each had a word that fit the different plural rules - for example, candy, man, desk, church. There were 4 for each rule. Then they had to write the plural above the singular word, cut them out and paste them into the correct "patch" on their poster. It made a cute fall display.
