A student with a major behavior issue

So I have this little boy who is getting on my last nerve. I have done:
- sticker charts
- marble jars
- given special jobs
- taken away recess or other extra activites
- moved him to every table
- given him his own table
- used privacy folders
- used a carpet square
- had him sit at a chair during rug time
- allowed him to earn lunch with me
- now he is sitting on a chair, away from the rug during rug time and has a privacy folder at his own table.

He is able to find what drives each student nuts, and does it. He will bother them, with a smile on his face, until I hear the other child retaliate. When I am out, the subs always leave bad notes about his behavior. It is always the same, he will not leave the other students alone.
I don't know what to do. I have tried every behavior plan I have and nothing works. He

Sounds like a smart bored little boy!

Do you have a guidance counselor? A school psychogist? Maybe they can observe him or talk with him. Can he keep caught up if he was not with you all the time? Does he want to have friends? Does he care?

Sometimes I have sent my student on a wild goose chase(arrange it with staff ahead of time). I will send the child to the office to get a copy of something (not that I need it). The secretary keeps them there for a while and then thanks them for being such good helpers. Then sends them back to the room. It is enough of a distraction that I can get the class working and when the child returns, their 'stage' is no longer available. I can get that child going and they kinda have to catch up. If I see them going off again, I will send the child off on another task.... get me a pile of napkins, dry out the sink, take the note to the office. Many times these kids love to help out. Think of anything to change the situation and their timeline.

Hey,

I think his twin is in my class! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one--it really gets me upset and angry b/c I Can't teach with this student acting up. I have also tried everything--rug time is a HUGE problem and the only way I can teach is with him sitting in a chair in the corner, away from the group. At the beg. of the year, I thought he just wanted attention, but now I think he has some issues.

I am starting to think there is something else going on with this student--the principal is going to get the psychologist involved and I think he will eventually be brought up to our Case Study Team.

I can't send him on a wild goose chase every day for 1/2 hour, can I?? although I would love to...

Depending on the child, they may need the redirection. I would not hesitate to send him on a wild goose chase if you can use that time to teach the rest of the children. See if the child is able to come back and focus, now that everyone else is busy.

I have taught high school kids to know when they need to leave a room and take a walk, get their act together come back to the room and get to work. I have had my share of EBD students. I love the challenge! It is like solving a puzzle.

I have three students that could be related to your student. I have a total of 15 kids and when these kids are absent from class everyone is on task. I have tried what you have listed above. One of my kids like to pull hair, walk by and knock over any that the student is working on. He like to run in the classroom and jump on the rug and do flips. I also have him doing things around the classroom to keep him busy. I redirect and talk with him all day long. I need help with him. My other two kids are just a little better them him. But they have a hard time following directions. Oh boy!!! I hope to have them turn around by next year...
