Turkey Hand Print Poem

I usually create a hand print poem and placemat.

I print the turkey poem on the left side of a piece of blue cardstock. I borrow some tempura paint, brown, red, yellow, orange, and green and a couple of paintbrushes from the art teacher. Doesn't take much. I paint the students thumb brown, and each of their fingers in one of the other colors listed. Press their hand against right side of the blue card stock. After it is dry, they draw with markers a beak (triangle), snood, and legs. I write the students name and year on the bottem right. I get the cardstock from walmart. The color I use is in the multipack with red, blue, and yellow. The colors really stand out on that color of cardstock.

Also, I cut a mini die cuts (leaves, apples, turkeys) in fall colors and have them create a pattern around the edge of a large piece of construction paper and glue them down to make a place mat. I have both items laminated to take home.

coffe filter turkeys

I don't remember what site I saw this on, but it looked like a good, inexpensive activity, so I tried it this year. The children color a coffee filter with markers to be the feathers, spray it with water, let it dry and then add a brown construction paper body, eyes, beak, waddle, and feet. They turned out really cute-tie dyed effect. I put them on our bulletin board, but I wish I had windows to put them on because the light shining through them would have been great.

If you click on the collections tab at the top right you will find 3 different collections of Thanksgiving activities. They are wonderful. Here is a link to the edible Thanksgiving collection here on PT.

I've done all of these and they are SUPER cute- I've gotten lots of compliments from parents and they don't require much more than what you'd have in your classroom already
