Are there any FREE writing programs out there on the internet?
We're a small private school and since 'writing' is covered in our texts, there's no need to buy something else. (You know how that goes!) I don't have money to spend.
Writing is covered in my English book, but it's 'canned' and I REALLY don't like it.
I've tried a Writing Workshop, but time/scheduling is a problem. I'm reading Daily 5 and teach a 1/2 combo class.
Any suggestions?

I also teach a 1st/2nd grade class. I was using Treasures reading program, but am moving away from parts of it. It is weak in grammar/writing areas. Which program are you using?

I'm using BJU. It seems like many like the writing part, but I don't. I seems too 'canned' to me. (Maybe it's too traditional for me!)

Our writing is also "included" in our language arts program. Ugh.

This year I purchased a book from Evan-Moor.com. It's in their Daily series, called the 6 Writing Traits, and each book is tailored for the grade level. I LOVE it! It teaches a new convention every week and focuses on a writing trait for about 6 weeks. I tweaked it a little, so it suits my needs (using Thinking Maps), and make sure that my students have to write every day, and I am having fabulous results! I like it because every week the students go through a writing plan on Thursday and create a finished paper every Friday.
