Hi there. We're planning to do an author study on Laura Numeroff's "If You Give a _____a ____" series of books. Does anyone have any activities for these books? Thanks!

If you give a pig a pancake- make pancakes for snack. Make pigs out of pink play dough.

If you give a moose a muffin- muffins for snack, foot print head and hand prints as antlers to make their own moose.

If you give a cat a cupcake- we made cats out of construction paper.

If you give a mouse a cookie, the kids decorated paper cookies to look like their favorite cookie.

If you give a pig a party- we made party hats and had a pretend tea party.

This is all I can think of right now, we did this theme last year...

We're doing this unit in January!!!!

If You Give a Pig a Pancake---
I have a toy griddle and pancakes (Lakeshore??). I assessed students in how many objects they could count and then they stacked that number of pancakes. I took pictures for their portfolios. We scrap booked the page with a pancake graphic with the same number of pancakes.
Students cut out circles and glued them to a paper plate. We added a "foam" paper yellow square (butter) and I mixed white glue with maple extract for "syrup".

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie---
paper bag mouse puppet
If You Give a Pig a Party---
This was a culminating activity. Students listed what they would need in order to have a party. They wanted streamers, balloons and ice cream! Fun! Fun! Fun!

I saw the books and stuffies - both were of good quality. Quite a deal for only $5.00 each.

Thanks for all the great ideas! We have 2 of the stuffed characters from Kohls, but we don't have the pig yet so glad to hear they have them again. I think we may do this for 2 weeks!
