We are starting quotation marks this week. Does anyone have any fun ways that help students learn quotation marks? TIA!

After you teach the basics, have the kids have a conversation with each other, write it on notebook paper, and then have it proofread to make sure the quotes are in the correct places. Then have the kids make a poster of the conversation using macaroni for the quotes and commas. My kids LOVE this activity.

I have sentences prewritten, using the kids' names, on big cards. The students get to put macaroni noodles on the cards for the quotation marks. I use this for commas, too. I use it during the introduction lesson, and then later for independent practice and they get to glue them on, then. They love it!

What size font do you use when typing up sentences to fit the macaroni?
