Rounding to tens, hundreds

Hello,
I have students who struggle with rounding. I have tried a song, acting it out, number charts....they just don't understand the concept....I know the root of the problem is that they don't have a strong number sense. Part of our SAGE goals is that they have to know how to do this. Any suggestions??

Thanks a million!!

I teach my kids to focus on the ones digit...the superhero. We learn that 0,1,2,3,4 have no power, while 5, 6,7,8,9 have power. When the ones digit has no power it simply dies (and becomes a zero). We even draw the arrow up to heaven to show that it died. If the ones digit does have power, it flies over to the tens place and gives it one power...then it dies. We drawn an arrow to show it giving its power away. I read this idea on proteacher in the past. This has really helped my kids with the concept.

What a great strategy! This strategy will certainly help my kids remember how to round numbers. Thank you for the tip!
