I have been overwhelmed with requests!! I am putting EVERYTHING here. I am not able to email all of this to so many people, but I am excited to share it!
Let me know if you have trouble opening any of the files.
Abby
Day One: The first thing I have kids do is decide whether or not they want TO ROAST or NOT TO ROAST the turkey. We create a class chart and everyone gets a "post-it" vote. Each child puts their name on their post-it. I remind them that they can change their mind at any time during the unit.
I start by asking the students what they already KNOW about turkeys. We record their responses on a chart that mimics the attached document.
This is a document my kiddos are pretty familiar with. You can always add/adjust to fit your needs. I will try not to attach anything as a PDF. I'm always frustrated that I can't "tweak" PDFs.
Please just give credit where credit is due!
After we've recorded the WIK (What I Know) section, I use the powerpoint (next post) to introduce them to the fabulous world of turkeys. There is also a student book that will follow.
I have recently gotten an ActivBoard, but I haven't had the time to convert anything into a flipchart. If you do, please share!!
There are several missing activities that go on throughout the week. I will do my best to upload them from work - that's the only place I have them stored.
I hope this helps! Thank you for all your requests!
Have fun - let me know if you use it and how it goes!!
Thanks so much! I have always been interested in doing WW and RW and using your wonderful plan before Thanksgiving will be just the amount of taste for me. Is there anyway you can send me the powerpoint??? I would really love to do your whole unit!!!

Hi Abby,
Okay again I love this unit and I appreciate you sharing your hard work with me and evryone else! I really want to do this whole unit before Thanksgiving but have a few questions. Is the Body of the Turket pic a picture of a turkey with the vocab and definitions on the bottom? Is the Turkey poem and template something I can download or search the internet for? Also the part of a lettre poem is that a download as well? I am sorry for all of these questions. I just am excited about this and want to do it right my first time. Thanks so much!!!!
This looks fantastic! I would really, really appreciate it if your could send the ppt. and the other documents (template, poem, etc) We have parent and grandparent visitation days the week before Thanksgiving so I would love to impress the socks right off of them with these turk-iffic lessons PLEASE

I would also love to see the powerpoint presentation and the templates for the other documents. I'm subbing in a classroom the week before and week of Thanksgiving. The teacher is letting me implement my own lessons. I would love to do this with her class and have her come back to see the wonderful lessons. My email address is cgresham24aol.com. I would really appreciate it.
Okay so I really appreciate all the time and energy it took to develop these lessons and post them but I think the topics are a little to controversial for my student population. I think they are a little young to be deciding how they feel about free range and intensive farming. I love the WW and RW concept but maybe I will begin doing it with another topic.
Thanks anyway.
I had to remove a couple of sound effects and photos to make this work, but I figured we're all smart people. You can find your own photos and sounds to spice it back up.
Students write about what kind of farm they think Turk and Runt lived on. Use this AFTER students have read/watched/learned about different kinds of farming.
