Lots of .... If you give a mouse a cookie, take him to the movies, etc books
Flip foldables... Example: on outside flap draw a plant seed with the sun and a watering can and on the inside of the flap, a beautiful flower...

T chart

You can outline a story--from the anthology or any of the If You Give A ___ a ____ books, suggested above with a T chart.

It's shaped like a T one side of the top line is labeled cause the other side effect, you list the cause on the left side of the vertical line with the effect across from it on the right.

Before you start you can ask the kids about cause and effect in real life. List things that make you cry (the cause); crying is the effect. Stand outside on a windy day, what effect does the wind have. (Blow on a feather or small wad of tissue to explore in this at their desks). I like the balloon and pin, too--great idea.

Graphic Organizer

I've used this graphic organizer this year. I think we read the story "The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash". I used the overhead and together we wrote and illustrated the cause and effect. The next day I read another story and the kids filled one in independently by just drawing pictures for each one.

Dominoes

I use dominoes. Set them up, the cause is me pushing the first one, the effect is each one falling and hitting the next one. The kids love it.
