We have a class mascot in our classroom and the children are driving me crazy to take it home. Does anyone have a good project for this? Letter to parents? I was thinking they could take it home for two days, take five pictures with it, and write about what they did with the mascot. I think one kid could do mon, tues, another wedn, thursday that way no one has the mascot on the weekend. Ideas anyone?

I do just the opposite. Mine only take our mascot home on the weekends. I drew from my question can and allowed them to sign up for a weekend for the beginning of school until Christmas. Those who didn't get picked will do in from Jan. til end of school. I have a journal and they have to write about what they did. I also have some who put pictures in. Last year I had a dad take him to Hungary on a business trip. We even made him a passport which they stamped at customs. The dad sent us pictures from his trip showing Moe in different places and telling all about them. Another family took him on a cruise with them over spring break. It was really cool! Start out with weekends at first or you'll drive yourself crazy trying to get him back every two days.

Here's the link to the page on my website where I post their journal entries.

Our mascot is a fox. He has his own backpack and journal. I draw names to see who he goes home with. That way it is always an exciting surprise. He goes home on Tuesday and returns on Friday, then goes home with someone else Friday afternoon and returns on Monday. The kids share what they wrote in the journal with the class. I put a letter in the front of the journal explaining what it is all about and I do the first entry as an example. The students write from the fox's perspective. I allow them to include photographs or drawings, but emphasize that it is primarily a writing activity. The kids love it.
