My students are struggling with this concept. Any ideas of how to present it?

Thanks,

With both addition and subtraction with regrouping, I have used lots of manipulatives and base ten blocks. Kids really have to understand the concept behind it to really understand what they are doing. You may need to go back a step and reteach place value.

National Library or Virtual Manipulatives. It breaks base ten blocks down or regroups them, depending on subtraction or addition.

Thanks for the ideas. I agree that the kids need to understand the concept before they complete it. I used the place value models with them today which seemed to help and I may take them into the computer lab to use the virtual models. That is a great site.

Thanks!
