Working late (but not working) vent

I have three children that come along with sports practices, music lessons, mandatory pick up times etc... so I normally do not work late. I do go in early and work all day and generally do bring work home with me. In other words I am not a slacker.

Well there are a few people at my school who "work" late and always comment on it. "I am so busy, I had to stay until 6 last night!", "I have so much to do, I am going to end up staying until 7 tonight!"

I never really thought too much about it but recently I moved into a new classroom and have a new class and A LOT of work to do- so I have actually been staying late. I have noticed that all these people who "work" late all the time are spending all their time making personal calls on their cell phone, doing their personal email, chatting with others, and even watching tv! They aren't working late! They are staying late enjoying their alone time away from their significant others and children and getting off on bragging about how much "work" they are doing!

I know that it is really no big deal. It IS their time and it isn't like they are getting paid for those extra hours. I just don't appreciate it that they have been acting like they work more than me because I leave at a reasonable hour!

Okay- I feel a little better now that I have vented!

Do we work at the same school??? Or have the same life?? Close enough, eh?

I know what you mean-- people just like to say how hard they are working, when, in actuality, they ainʻt doing crap!

What is even more frustrating than that is when you do have to stay late because you really are trying to get something done and then those people keep stopping in to chat about some random thing...I've even had my door closed and it's been opened by "Chatty Cathy!" Like I want to be there even later?!! If you're there to work--work! If not, at least respect those that are there to do so!

Of course they are just fooling around! You can't really be working steady 3-4 hours after school every day!!
And it is so annoying to hear how late they worked. I personally think someone staying that late all the time is kind of lame. Why can't they get more done during the day?
Ridiculous.

EXCEPT that I do not claim to be working the whole time--I admit to piddling around and I usually down play the amount of time I'm here. I usually stay because I want my DD to be able to attend after-school activities and it is too far to go home in the meantime. (By the time I got home, it would be within 15-20 minutes of time to return.)
