My school just adopted HM Math Expressions. This is our first year, but I love it (side note

) Anyway, one thing that we start on day 1 is a game called Random Fingers. The kids put their hands behind their back...I say a number and they "show me" with their fingers. We played the first part of the first unit is numbers 5 and less...then we added that other hand. Now we are talking about 6 being 5 and 1..and 8 being 5 and 3...etc.
Anyway, my point is that I teach 1st and from what I have heard in my trainings this is something they introduce and work on in kdg. So, I would agree with the PP that the skill is appropriate in kdg.
Random Fingers is a fun game (my students think so anyway) if you think it would work with them.
