AR Incentives

Our school is coming on board with AR as a tool to help with comprehension. I am wondering if anyone has any icentive lists with points needed for different levels. I am also interested in knowing how many points are expected at each grade level. This will not take the place of our reading program, but takes the place of a reading incentive that we currently have in place.
Thanks

We have used AR for years. I love it. There are actual goals that come with the program materials. When I was a third grade teacher in a middle reading group I required about 9 points every six weeks. That meant one small chapter book a week, plus at least one picture book a week. I am just beginning AR with some of my first graders, I don't have a feel for them yet.

I have always done individual goals, not team goals.

No goals in first grade

I have used AR for four years in first grade. We do not use it as part of our grade, nor do we set AR goals with our first graders. I enjoy AR because it does give an assessment of the childs comprehension of the book. I encourage each child to test on their library book each week. I also try to use books in guided reading groups that students can test on. I encourage students to take at least 1 test a week. Some students will take up to 5 a week. I have students in the lower levels 0.1-1.9 (Emergent and Early Readers) read their book three times before taking a test. As they become better readers (Transitional) I allow them to test after reading the book once. I find that for most students, getting on the computor and taking an AR test is incentive enough. They love taking AR tests.

Team Goals

At my school, the older grades set ind. goals. However, for the 1st graders we do team goals. Even though the system tracks in points, It also can track books read. That's what we use. I think our goals were 500 books, 750 books, 1000 books, 1250 books, 1500 books. When they reach the goal as a team, we "celebrate". Our PTO helps us purchase the incentitives. 500 pts is a bubblicious day... bubble gum and bubbles. Later goals are an ice cream sundae building, special surprise assembly (usually the zoo comes and brings an animal or we have a magician, pizza party, and if they reach the 1500 it is water fun day. They usually always make it to 1500 and we don't start team AR until Jan. With my higher readers I am starting this month.
