As a followup to the thread about planning time...

How much time do you have each day with your students for actual instruction?

How many minutes each day do you get for planning time?

How many minutes of non-instructional time are you responsible for every day (duties, etc.)?

I have a 1/2 combo class.

Non-instruction time: one 15 min recess, 15 min snack (I have ONE eye on them) and I eat lunch with them.

Planning: I have two 15 min recesses which might be used for planning, but I'm usually getting ready for the next time chunk.

All the rest of the day (7:50 till 3:00) I'm teaching/interacting with children. When one grade is working independently, I'm teaching the other grade.

I teach second grade and have the following time chunks in my day:

Non-instructional time: 15 mins recess duty (sometimes we switch off and this becomes an extra time for planning) and then after school duty; there is the 30 min lunch time, but this is not a duty of mine.

Planning time: 60 mins

Instructional time: about 6 hrs 15 mins depending on how quickly they unpack and get settled. The least amount of time I have with them is 6 hrs.

I am very blessed to work in a school where they value instructional time being optimized. We do not have many duties, and the ones we do have are short amounts of time.

Planning time--40 Minutes M-T; 30 minutes on F (but these are usually taken up by "meetings" with various staff)

Recess--15 min
Lunch--40 min

Instructional time is 8:00-3:00, so we have about 5 hrs 25 min of instruction a day.

We have 6 hours of instructional time a day. We have 60 minutes of duty free time (recess and lunch....we NEVER have to do duty. Thank you union!) and 30 mins of planning time. The planning time is actually 20 mins before school and 10 mins after school.

my grade level are in school for 6.5 hours a day.

I have them for 4.5 hours a day.

I get about 1.5 for planning (they are in their special area classes).

Twice a week I stay with late pickups but it's only for about 1/2 hour max.

Other than that we don't have any other duties.
