I want to have my students practice writing with simles by doing some type of Thanksgiving poem or activity. We just finished doing several pieces of lengthy writing samples, and I want them to relax and actually enjoy writing entertaining! Does anyone have any suggestions?

What about creating a Thanksgiving similie picture book...they could each write and illustrate five pages of it?

I like your Thanksgiving simile picture book idea - however, wouldn't it be even more entertaining if it was about a disastrous dinner? Mashed potatoes with lumps hard as rocks, etc.

When I was in fifth grade, we did menus and advertisements.

You could do a Thanksgiving menu.

Turkey that looks like _______

Mashed potatoes as creamy as the ___________

Orange carrots as bright as the sun

We did advertisements, not Thanksgiving related that were entertaining.

"Buy our Super Awesome Vacuum cleaner. It's as quiet as a ______. It picks up dust as well as a ________."

Etc.
