Talk to your speech therapist about some ideas! She should be able to give you some suggestions on how to help your student. I often go to our speech therapist for ideas on helping with phonics and blends. She's full of great ideas!

Linda Mood Lips has a phoneme cubes activity that is very helpful. Your speech therapist may be familiar and willing to model a quick cvc lesson. I actually use them whole group or small group with needy readers.

i had a student last year that did this. the special ed teacher suggested as much as possible putting a dot under the first letter of each word as a visual reminder of where he should start, the sound he should say first. you might try that and see if it helps at all.

Have you tried using Elkonin boxes? Having them see the sounds in isolation may help. Then being able to "push" those sounds will reinforce where the sounds are in the word.
