Progress Monitoring

You know, when we first started progress monitoring in our district with DIBELS, I was overjoyed. For once, I had a way to show my students' progress. I never felt so successful in my career.

Move ahead about six or seven years, and I'm starting to get the progress monitoring blahs. We still monitor using DIBELS, but we've added AIMSweb monitoring in early numeracy and writing. So, out of the week, I'm progress monitoring three different times. I feel like I have even less time to teach. Then, add in the amount of time it takes to enter the scores online, and I'd say I'm spending about 3 hours a week on progress monitoring my class. That's too much. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah my 90 minute reading block for my ESE students is getting smaller and smaller.

I pretty much donate one day per week to progress monitoring rather than teaching just to keep my head above water. I try to keep it to one day per week. I really don't know how else to do it....and that does not include charting on the computer after hours.

We also progress monitor (pm) using DIBELS. I make my own progress monitoring for math and writing. I started pm every week but now it's every 2 weeks because you're right--there is not enough time to teach. I know it's only 1 minute probes--but some of my groups are big (at least for intervention--I have one group of 6). We started doing this more because we started RtI --Response to Intervention!!

How do you like AIMSweb?

I'm not really thrilled with Aims Web. It is quick and does graph the progress, but I find that the Read Naturally Program is more useful to assessing my learning disabled students. The comprehension MAZE part of Aims Web is a joke!
