student facebook friend request

I got 2 facebook friend requests- one from a former student that has moved away and one from a highschool student that I know (I work with middle years students with special education and with students with behaviour needs). I obviously don't allow students as friends on my account but I don't want to hurt their feelings. Is it okay to send a message saying something to that effect? Any suggestions on what to say? Thanks!

I think that would be appropriate. I wouldn't want to add them either, just because of privacy reasons for you and them.

against teachers and students being friends. Once the student has graduated then you may accept a friend request from them. That is what we tell students.

I tell them to "friend" me again after they graduate. They understand.

I allow former students--after graduation--to be my friends.

I also allow current (middle school) and those who are in high school to be my friend . . . BUT . . . I also block them from seeing my photos (except classroom ones), my personal information, and my wall feed. So, it's not very interesting for them. I also won't IM them or talk to them via inbox messages.

I don't add students until after high school. I send them a message saying I can't add students since I'm a teacher. They usually reply with "I understand". They get the whole privacy thing.
