I love reading Who Stole The Wizard of Oz by Avi. The story is enjoyable. I use it to model the genre mystery and complete a packet exactly like the students will with their mysteries.

I wanted to try something different this year, so got this one out. I am AMAZED at how much the students are loving it. It is quite long, but I try to read at least 15 minutes a day. There is a "discussion guide" on the Scholastic site to go with it. I plan to bring in the movie (PG) to watch after to compare/contrast it to the book.

Here is the scholastic page with the teaching resources..

My kids love A to Z Mystery series. Any of these are good read alouds and they foster the desire to read MORE of them on their own as they identify with Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose the main characters.

My class enjoys the Third-Grade Detective series. They really enjoy days when there is a secret code in the chapter. I'll put it on the board and not reveal the solution/answer until the next day.
