Evaluations/Observations

Is it typical for 1st year teachers to be evaluated 2 times the first year? I thought teachers were only observed/evaluated once per year? I was observed and evaluated by my principal this week. I had favorable markes in all the areas but he check that I was to be "re-evaluated". So, I was just wondering.

In my district, new teachers get evaluated 3 times a year for the first 3 years. After that, they are off probation.

In my district (a larger urban public district) we observed twice a year (maybe more, but not usually) and evaluated every year until you are tenured (after four years.) Once you are tenured, I believe it's every other year you are evaluated. Ours is also per our union contract. It seems to be different depending on your district.

yes typically a teacher in first two yrs of teaching is observed twice per year for two years, and once more the following the yr(third yr)...after that it rotates so that u are only evaluated once every other year.

We gave 3 evaluations the first year and the second year, then we start on a three year cycle where you get evaluated 3 x on during your eval. year. Then you have two years without evals.

in my district new teachers are evaluated four times each year for the first four years! I would have loved to only be evaluated twice.

My dh works for the airforce so we have moved around alot and I always seem to be a new teacher to a district. I have taught in 4 states and all observe first year teachers and new teachers to the district twice a year. No biggie to me anymore.
