Cynthia Rylant book suggestions for lesson observation

I'll be doing a lesson observation (whole group shared reading) on Cynthia Rylant. We've already read The Relatives Came. Does anyone have any book suggestion, activity ideas, and how to keep students focused/involved? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Wonderful Happens

is a great book. It's got a great format to it that I've used several times. I don't have the frame I've made with me, but it's easy to make one up. After reading it aloud, you could do a guided writing lesson following the format. I great group writing might be... in a local elementary school, a teacher teaches a class, a wonderful class. Then the group brainstorms ideas for what makes such a wonderful class--listening, teamwork, partnering, editing with eachother, etc. Then the wonderful happened, Mrs. Blank's class. If you make up a frame for it, you can brainstorm their favorite or wonderful things.
If you know or get the book, this post will make sense. Good luck!
