In writing, we are working on writing how to narratives. Does anyone have a good suggestions for something fall or Thanksgiving related to write a how to about that a 3rd grader could do?

My 4th graders just wrote about How to Build a Scarecrow. I think that could easily be done in third grade. They really enjoyed it, and we painted pictures to match afterwards.

Tom Turkey

My 4th graders do a Tom Turkey writing assignment. They create a story (plot, characters, climax, etc) where the turkey disguises himself. They also get to disguise a paper cut-out of a turkey that matches their story. The kids get really creative and bring in their turkey disguised as a McDonald's worker, famous football players, Elvis, and hula dancers. They love it!
