CVC or Vowel Help

Hello! I have some kids that are low! They don't know their vowel sounds and just reading simple CVC words are difficult. Does anyone have flashcards that have CVC words to read? Also I was thinking of vowel sorts where there is a picture and they need to lay the picture under the correct vowel?

Thanks for your help!

I have seen 3-Letter Words flashcards sold at Meijer, Walmart, and sometimes dollar stores. They are in the "school section" with the pens, paper, etc. They are with the Old Maid cards, number cards, etc. They are perfect CVC flashcards!

of CVC words.

My teaching partner and I have made little strip books, one for each vowel, and one booklet of mixed vowel words. This is our beginning of grade one "home reading program." Each booklet is about 8 pages long with about 6 words per page.

The kids take one book at a time home - starting with short a words - and we ask that parents contact us when they've fully mastered them. Then we send home the next vowel. It's made a big difference to their abilities.

We also put a copy of the book they're currently reading at home in their desk bag of books so that they practice at school too.

the bbc website has a soundcatcher game that helps with the middle sound. Also check out first school years dot com for some pics you can copy/paste--I like to hand out the pics - then show the word cards to a small group - have ea. child read a word - first one to get rid of all cards wins--it just makes it fun that way
