Hi for those of you who teach Reading Street--how do you fit in your science/social studies?

I only teach 1/2 day and we are supposed to be doing a story a week as well as still teach everything else. I just don't have enough time. For example, next week our story is so cute and the kids love it, but I have to skimp on the unit b/c I also have to teach Thanksgiving.

Just wondering how everyone else fits it all in...

I am also having trouble fitting it all in and I teach full day K. For Science and Social Studies I have been using a lot of the activities in extend your day so that I can continue with the theme. I also have to fit in Zoo Phonics. It's two great programs but I find I just don't have time to do both justice. Does anybody else use this combination?

I just had this conversation with the principal. We just don't have time to do justice to science and social studies units. We have a 1 1/2 hours for LA each day and 45 min. to an hour for math. Add lunch, recess, centers (I won't give that up even if it is only for 20 minutes) and specials' and that doesn't leave much time until dismissal. I thought about doing social studies one month and science the next month to give more time to each subject.

I teach full day and I can't fit it all in-mainly because my children are really low and I spend all my time just trying to get them to be able to master the reading skills. Usually I read a couple of books in the afternoon that continue the theme.
