I don't grade this project as it is an at home project. You really don't know what the child did versus the parents. IMO it is not fair to give grades for work done at home. I don't grade homework either. I just give students credit for turning it in.

I don't use it to figure my grades, however, I think sending home a fair assessment of the work that came back is good communication.

I don't grade homework either except for responsibility.

There is no way I could grade this work. I have such a diverse group of kids, the ones from homes where the project came back BEAUTIFUL with lots of lovely things on it and the ones that came in, so very proud of their work because their mother's helped them that looked terrible compared to the others. I guess it just comes down to what the purpose of the assignment was for you. For me, it was a fun way for families to work and make a product that they were proud of. There was no pressure on this and I had several that didn't do it. I do these once a month and my families love them. If I started sending grades home I think they would see it in a whole different light, and I don't want that.
