I loved this unit, but don't have the book home to review the lessons. Remind me the gist of what the lesson is, and I might have some ideas to share.

This lesson is about the narrator's point of view. In this lesson the students give a thumbs up or thumbs down as the point of view changes in the story. My main problem is coming up with the stories to teach from. Any suggestions you may have I will appreciate. I have a team of teachers coming in to see me teach this lesson and I really want to do a great job.

Internal/External

If this is the internal/external lesson on what is happening and thoughts, here's what I did. I loved this lesson, and the kids really understood it way better than I thought they would. I followed Lucy's format. The book I used was Fireflies by Julie Brincloe. We've read that one a lot. I picked pages where the author used actions and thoughts clearly. I projected those pages and had the students with partners, discuss which were thoughts and which were actions. After they discussed, they shared out and we lableled the thoughts and actions right on the page. Then, before starting worktime, I had them write a reminder on a post-it to use a mix of thoughts and ideas in their stories. They keep these reminders in the front page of their writer's notebooks.

I hope this helps!

E-mail me and I can share with you all of the supporting texts from each unit. Beth.stewart<img src="images/smilies...mg" />hcbe.net. Be sure to explain what you need in the e-mail so I don't delete it not knowing who you are.
