There are so many content standards. Have any of your schools or districts specified "priority" or "essential" or "power" standards? What selection criteria makes sense for standards? I'm particularly interested in language arts. Thanks!

They used to do that when I first started teaching, but since our state curriculum to performance standards pretty much everything is essential.

Our district spent a lot of time/ money for teachers to create Power Standards at each grade level and for each subject area a few years back. These are based off of the State Standards.

Thanks for the input. I'm struggling to find a way to make them meaningful and useful. Is the time and money well-spent?
