Santa

Third grade is the year kids start questioning Santa at my school. I sent an email to all my parents asking that if their child no longer believed, that they talk to them and explain that they should not talk about it to the "believers." I cannot tell you how many parents responded with a huge "Thank You" They were so grateful that perhaps they can get another year of Christmas magic.

I like this idea. I've dealt with this issue before too. I luckily have a great story that I share with the students about this gentleman that I met. Also, whenever a child says something like that, I answer with a really? And keep a straight face. I hate to see the magic of childhood lost.

What a great idea. When I taught Kindergarten, I had a sub who told all the kids there was no Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny etc. I had an answering machine full of parent complaints when I got back. I felt so bad for those students.
The crazy thing was there was nothing in my lesson plans about any of those figures. Who knows why this sub brought it up to the kids.

What a great idea. I too, am struggling with how to approach Santa. Would you be willing to share your story? Thanks in advance.

Santa...YES!

When the subject of Santa comes up in my classroom, I tell students that I believe in Santa. Often someone responds with "Really?". I just say, yes, really. I don't feel like I'm lying to them, because for me Santa represents the transformation that overcomes many people over the holidays. I call this the Spirit of Christmas, the kids call it Santa.
