Social Studies-What publisher?

Hello!

I am currently on our district social studies committee. We are having a hard time finding publishers for third grade social studies curriculum.

Could you share your publisher? Or ideas?

Thanks!

I, too, was on the social studies adoption committee (last year) and we viewed many social studies publishers. The committee observed TCI at a few schools that had already adopted TCI. We were immediately impressed with TCI; so, we adopted TCI for K-5 this school year. My students are always fully engaged and continually ask when are we going to do social studies again. TCI is not just reading a textbook and completing a workbook page. It's loaded with engaging activities. My third grade students absolutely LOVE interacting in pairs and groups while completing the activities and the best part, they are learning key concepts while having fun. The TCI online teacher support is an excellent resource. It has an easy to follow presentation to help you plan each chapter. (You need a password for the chapter presentations.) If you are interested, TCI's website is teachtci.com. Good luck in your social studies search!

I absolutely agree with the post above...I LOVE the Social Studies Alive curriculum. My old district had it but we don't where I currently am...teaching Social Studies is SO boring now! Definitely look into it!

I use Nystromand love it. It is a map based program without a text book. Your lessons are drive through the maps. It's a k-3 program and supplemental for 4-5. Some love it. Others hate it. It tends to be those that are used to using a text book and worksheets that hate it. I highly recommend looking into it. If money is an issue, the program is also a lot less expensive then others.

I love our TCI in 2nd and 3rd grade! The kids are so engaged and they cheer when our schedule says: social studies. I would highly recommend it!

We use SSA as well. I've taught it in 1st and 2nd grade. We didn't adopt it for K and I wish we hadn't for 1st. It just draaaaaaaaaaags on! My kids hate it too. Over winter break, I'm going to come up with some of my own units that actually follow our state standards. It's 100 times better in 2nd grade though so I assume it's pretty good in third as well.

from Scott Foresman...way too hard for even an average 3rd grade reader. We have had to adapt and create all our own materials to meet the needs of our kids...way too much work!

We use Scott Foresman and I absolutely despise it. In all honesty, it is the worst s.s. curriculum I have ever seen. I create a lot of my own stuff, but I am expected to use the text book and assessments and they are just awful.
