Christmas Around the World

Does anyone have any lessons for Christmas around the world? Or any ideas/websites of places to look?

I have some students who celebrate things other than Christmas and would like to touch on many holidays but don't know where to help.

Thanks in advance for your help

There was a thread on here about this with a lot of helpful sites and attachments. I believe it was posted on the 13th. I'll look for it too.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas. I have never really done a good job of teaching Christmas Around the World. I am now looking forward to December.

We also travel to different countries to learn about their holiday traditions. I have always done Italy. I'm looking for a new craft idea. Any ideas?

In the past I've done a little booklet from the Mailbox (old - early 1990's I think). It had a little poem & icon from different countries that explained traditions in each country. We'd read the poem, color the icon & put it on the map. This year I am reading a book from several different countries and making a little craft to commemorate the tradition from each country.

Some examples:

Mexico - The Legend of the Poinsettia (Tomie DePaola) making a poinsettia w/glitter
Russia - Uncle Vova's Tree (Patricia Polacco) making paper stars
Germany - Cobweb Christmas (Shirley Climo) making glitter glue cobwebs
Italy - The Legend of Old Befana (Tomie DePaola) making a broom craft

I have a few others - but my file & the books are at school.

The broom craft is a great idea! I've also read The Legend of Old Befana, we made a venn diagram to compare the holiday traditions in Italy and the U.S. The kids wrote a letter to their parents about how much they love them---an italian tradition that they put under their dinner plates and for our craft we just decorated an ornament. So in an effort to update my craft---how do you make the broom craft?
