Quick help needed

I'm doing midterm progress reports. What is a generic positive thing I can say about a child when I really can't find anything positive to say? I just want to put one positive thing at the beginning and then move on to the "needs to improve" stuff. My brain is dead and I'm stuck. These have to go home tomorrow. TIA!

Normally those are all my go-to's as well. Unfortunately none of them are true for this child.....and I can't use "I enjoy having ______ in class" either, because I don't! Maybe I am trying to be too truthful.

Finally settled for "________ is a bright student." True for both of the ones I was stuck on but unfortunately if their behavior continues the way it's going, they will fall behind before too long.

Perhaps you might use "XXX is a capable student."

how about

when XXX puts forth his best effort his work is fantastic.
or when XXX puts forth his best effort we can easily see how capable he is.
