For word work try Making Words from Pat Cunningham; for comprehension try Debbie Miller's Reading with Meaning-it's aimed at first grade, primarily.
for sight words do word wall work.
Guess My Word/Read My Mind
Give clues for the student to guess using only words on the wall. They write their guesses down on a list--usually the back of old worksheets or copies that I didn't use. It takes a while to help them understand that the clues are cumulative.
Clue one is always: "It is on the word wall". [Any word on the wall can be written for this one, and be a correct guess.]
Clue Two can be "It has five letters" if there is more than one word with 5 letters.
Clue Three can be something about one of the letters "It has a silent e" Later in the year "It has 2 vowels" (when they know what vowels and consonants are--this certainly helps teach them the concept.)
Clue Four might be the initial letter or "it rhymes with ____"
Clue Five is the word itself.
Especially in the beginning I have to say: It is on the word wall AND has five letters AND has a silent e AND 3 consonants ...etc. as I add each clue for them to write their guess.
To play the game they have to search the word wall and think about the words, read them, and practice writing them.
Another game is rhymes. I pick a word from the word wall and they write it down eg. got. Then "If you can write got, you can write hot" You can write lot...spot...etc.
This is from Patricia Cunningham and she has got some other On The Back activities, but you get the idea. Check out the book Phonics They Use. It's in its fifth edition.
I have kids use the sight words from the word wall to create sentences. I start by dictating them and later have them write their own when they understand the concept. I let them have one non word wall word per sentence since nouns tend to be scarce on the wall.
