I just received an elmo and a digital projector for my classroom. I teach special ed pre-k and K and am looking for ideas on how to use these with my students.

I am using zoo phonics so I was thinking it would be nice to show a short video about the animals from zoo phonics- so for ellie elephant show a video that talked about where elephants live, what they eat, how they live etc.... but so far I really haven't found a good site that shows what I want- for example I am finding more dramatic things such as elephant rampages (NOT good for pre-k-K sped students). So if you can refer me to a good website.....

I am really not too sure what to do with the elmo, the only idea I have really had is to project shapes/letters on the board to trace....I have a very small group so most things are done pretty hands on so it really wouldn't be practical to project books we are reading or small objects..........

I feel very lucky to have some technology in my room, and would really love to be able to use it to help my students learn- I am just stuck on good ideas...........

I think my Elmo is the best tool I have ever had in teaching martboard even though I really like that, too. I use it all the time to model how to omplete charts etc...How to use things like zoom really close on rulers to show measuring and reading cm, mmm, inches etc... I do read alouds of picture books that I think they should see the illustrations more clearly or that are needed to show meaning, I use it daily to do Writers' Workshop to show my live writing while modeling. When we mad boraxcrystals last year, I was able to zoom so close we could count the sides on the crystals that we could identify the type. Even correcting homework or working in the math journals- I can model say, subtraction with regrouping andally keep their attention or show how to fill in diagrams. United streaming is great as are lots of other sites you'll discover. MOvies are now a big screen affair as well-nice! Have fun- you'll find so many uses!(Sorry some of the typing is messed up, I am trying to correct spelling and it won't let me insert without losing part ofthe word, but I think you get the idea.)

items on the ELMO and then project them onto the smartboard, if you have one. A lot of options with that.
Let kids come up and share their work.

We use the elmo for shared reading (I don't have a smart board).

I used it yesterday with a grade 2 class I was modelling a lesson in -- simply used it to introduce a new literacy centre task.

As a staff we use the elmo during learning team meetings when we do teacher moderation. Everyone can see the student work sample and we can collaboratively add the student feedback.
Classroom teachers also use it for kids to look at work samples in order to determine what is needed to bump-up their responses.

Next week I am using the elmo with a grade 1 class to demonstrate 5 frames and 10-frames as well as making sets.

Can also project the online story reading websites. Sure helps during those rainy indoor recesses or during lunch (we eat in classrooms -- our elementary schools do not have cafeterias)

I'm sure others will have lots of other ideas --- these are just the basic things we use it for.

We only have 1 elmo in our building. It is on a cart. How wonderful to have an elmo and projector in your classroom.

I have had a projector for a year and this year I have an ELMO. The projector is wonderful.

Our school has a subscription to www.brainpopjr.com This has wonderful little video clips. I did have brainpopjr in my class only last year. You can have a week free trial but that week goes too fast. The site does have several free movies that can be accessed without the subscription.

Remember the Elmo is a document camera. I have only had an ELMO three weeks and it has transformed my classroom. When I use the Elmo the students can all see whatever I am doing. It eliminated whining. I even used it for story time. I use it daily in math and anything I want my students to see up close. My students love it!

I use my projector to show the students sites I want them to access in the computer lab. it is a wonderful tool. Just play with it and don't limit yourself.
