Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am looking for mini-lessons for story retelling for first graders. This is one of our tested standards, and some of our students did not do well on the retelling so I am reteaching them.

Retelling Rubric

I had the kids come over to me to retell a story they had read. I used the attached rubric to assess their retelling. (I taught all these parts before using this rubric, so you would need to make adjustments to your expectations).

my ideas

Clip to ScrapBook #13

Thanks so much for your ideas! I love all of them. I am definitely going to make a poster out of the retelling rhyme. I'm going to use the movie, too.

I made stick puppets to tell my story. I found images on google of my characters, then I printed them and made stick puppets with them. We also made a flip book of the last story we read. We folded the paper in half, cut five sections, then wrote Problem, Detail, Detail, Detail, Ending on each flap. The students drew a simple picture on the top of each flap, then they wrote a sentence inside to describe each part. They loved doing that.
