P.O'ed about discipline...

or lack thereof! I work in a small district with pretty good kids, but I think the end of the good times is coming to an end. In the past month, 4 different kids have written/talked about killing employees. The first one got a lunch detention and the second one got 3 days of lunch detention. Well, it's just a big joke now, and I intercepted my 2nd death forecast today. Wonder how many days of eating with other rule-breakers this one will get? Meanwhile, I still get to teach with these students in my room and act as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened. That is not easy!

That is not a situation that you take lightly like that. Does the social worker know? Is there any protocal that you are suppose to follow in your handbook or anything? That is unbelievable that that was taken so lightly. I am sorry. I would almost go above their heads to see if someone else can help you with the situation.

Doesn't anybody in the admin remember Columbine??? This should be reported to the police immediately. Around here, this would be considered immediate expulsion and mandatory counseling for the students, if not psychiatric evaluation. None of us are paid enough to deal with the stress of the 'what ifs'. Make a fuss and get your entire teaching staff to do so also.

I would be rallying the other teachers and demand my safety be protected. Do not take this lightly-if something happens(God forbid) who will take the blame. No need to borrow trouble. Raise a stink-rally your staff for your own safety.

things have happened today. First, I met with this young girl's mom who told me that her older son opened the mail that contained my letter and her daughter's story. He came unglued on her because apparently I was one of his favorite teachers when I had him in class. She told her mom that she wrote the story around Halloween...don't know if that's true or not and don't really care. She is now in counseling as of today and will spend the next 2 days away from her best friends. Not a strong punishment, for sure, but I think my campus is waking up to the reality that the world is getting into our wonderful bubble. I know I've mouthed off every chance I had!

Thanks to all of you who voiced what I was thinking.
