Does anyone use wikis in their classroom? I'd like to get started with them but I'm not sure how. If you use them, can you please share--what grade levels, what subject, etc. Any input is appreciated for this novice. Thanks!

Currently --I am using a wiki for a technology class I am in. This is a college level class and we post twice month. I read and post on others on other teachers pages. I think the wiki may be a difficult process to manage in first grade. ( I teach in first) I find it helpful in the class I am taking. This is a two year process the class I am in. So it will keep us abreast of our projects and what each other is doing.

I use my wiki

to help keep ME organized. It is basically like my materials resource for my lesson plans. All of the files I would use in a day I embed in my wiki, so I can access them all from one place - rather than going through files to find things during class. This is very helpful, because I teach 3 grade levels with a different level every hour - so I constantly am using different resources.

I really love it - because if I create something from home - I don't have to worry about transferring the file, I just embed it on my wiki and I can access it from anywhere.

Could you share your wiki so we could see an example? We're being pushed to create one at our school, so I want to make sure I create something I'll use.

Thank you for sharing that info...I never thought of how it could be helpful for me. I also teach 3 grade levels of social studies throughout the day and I could really use techietch22's idea.

My students are grade 6,7,8. I'm designing an independent study unit (webquests etc) for a couple of gifted kids, and I was especially interested in having them use wikis to store and track their work.

this is the first thing that each of my students do when they come into my class. Log onto the wiki to find their directions to begin each class.
