I have a group of children who has not mastered their letter sounds yet. I'm looking for ideas to engage a group of mostly boys! Thanks!

Sing

Try singing the alphabet. I use Who Let the Letters Out by Dr. Jean.
If you don't have that try singing it to the tune of the Wheels on the bus. The letter a makes the sound of a, sound of a, sound of a, the letter a makes the sound of a, all school day long.

Collector cards

Use a picture of something they love (Star Wars, Spongebob, etc) to represent letters. Such as light saber for L. When they master a sound they get to keep a collector card. They love collector cards! I usually double laminate them so they are very stiff.

learning sounds

I make an art project, mostly animals, for each letter as an anchor experience for the children. The art project is posted above each letter on the wall to teach them to begin to
use the wall as a resource in addition to using it as a word wall.Students take each art project home. Hope this helps. I have used one book as a resource, but have loaned it out to a friend. I will try to get the title for you, but just joined so am not quite sure how I
could contact you. This has really helped my students learn the sounds. When we review the letters we have learned, the students must give the letter name, the letter sound, and
the key word (animal project we have made).
