are you ordering for your students this year? In the past, I have given my students ornaments, pencils, etc. This year I want to give my students books but do not know which ones to order. Which book titles are you ordering for your kids this year?? TIA

We order the gift certificates which allows the students to purchase any book $3 or less from the catalog. Then we remind them each month and we keep up with their certificates so they all get a free book by the end of the year. We've done that the last 2 years and that way they all can get a book on their level.

I love the idea of the certificates. I have just ordered a pretty good supply with my points. In the past, we have picked the book we think the kids will like. This year i am considering putting them out and letting the kids write down 2-3 that they would like and then choosing them that way - or maybe just putting them out and letting them pick. I am planning on giving them a pencil and probably a little treat - maybe a candy bar that we will make a craft around or something.

Scholastic Warehouse Sale

Do you have a Scholastic Warehouse in your area? In my area they have the sales in December and May. I pick books that I think each child will be interested plus several extras in case they don't like what I picked for them. If you print out a fast pass you can skip the line and save $10-$15, depending on how much you spend. I like doing this for Christmas gifts for my students since many of them don't have books at home.

I love the idea of certificates. I think I'll do that next year. This year, I just read Flat Stanley as a read-aloud and ordered Flat Stanley World Adventures from the Sept. order for $1 to give to the students as a gift.
