Check out this foldable I created. I was inspired by the foldable info shared in the previous post. The two sheets are copied back to back. First fold it top to bottom. Then fold it left to right. Cut out the top left corner with no text on it. You have created a mini book that the student will keep in the book they are reading. It will then be handy to fill out as the student is reading the book. So often they forget what they were thinking back towards the beginning of the book. This will help them when it's time to discuss the book and the author.

Other versions could be created that would target other reading strategies. Hope you like it or are inspired to create one that works for you.

My team and I were just discussing how to make students accountable without turning them off as readers. Thank you for the idea.

My students are soooo hooked on the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series AND some of them get lost along the way in their independent reading. This sounds like the perfect answer! Thanks for sharing your work!

Ok, I must be an idiot. I have printed this thing every which way and it doesn't work. Can you give me specific 1st grade instructions, I'm a little slow?

Shuntyswife,
When you are copying back to back, make sure that the number 1 text is on the backside of the cover (with the picture), and that they both have the bottom of the text at the bottom of the page.

Does that help?

Thanks so much for sharing. As pp said, my kids adore the DOWK series. I cannot get them to stop reading them.

I think this will be a good thing to do for our next trimester. It will add more accountability to their independent reading.

Thanks again!
