I need to connect the vocabulary word "eager" to a children's story. I need to read a portion of a story (about ten sentences) that demonstrates a character that was eager. Any ideas would so welcome.

This may be a stretch but...

how about the story Me Too by Helen Lester.
That character is too eager and always wants to be first.
This gets him in trouble in the story.
"Pushy" may be a better word to describe him actually.
