Online books/library

Does anyone have any sites for online books or like a library? A friends was telling me about a place that would read a book aloud to the kids, then they could read along, and maybe even test over it? She can't remember the site. Any ideas?

Tumblebooks that she is referring to. It is a subscription site by itself but you can access it through large city libraries and get into it legitimately for free.

I usually go through NYC public library or Harris County (TX) public library. Click on books > children's books > Kids Read> then Tumblebooks icon.

They have a variety of stories to choose from and you can pick automatic or manual reading and page turning. Some of the stories also have an extra activity like a game or puzzle or quiz. If the books are AR books, it gives the info right there and your students can definitely quiz on them.

RAZ for Kids

She may be thinking of RAZ for kids. It's part of the Reading A-Z group. On it, the students can read leveled books at their reading level, or they can listen to it being read, and then they can take a comprehension test about it. My students love it. It is subscription based, but very reasonable. You as a teacher can get reports about what they are doing and how they do on the comprehension tests. The website is: http://www.raz-kids.com

Hope this helps.

I just quickly went onto BookAdventure it reminds me of Accelerated Reader but a free program. Is this correct to assume?

Scholastic has Book Flix which pairs fiction and non fiction books. Our school has tumblebooks (fun games for easy centers too) also.
